Annual “Read Across America” Celebration


To kick off our first Annual “Read Across America” Celebration of Dr. Seuss’s Birthday on March 2, we have planned the following activities for students in grades 1 – 8.



Schedule of events for the week of:   Monday, February 27 – Friday, March 3, 2017.


­The weeks’ events will be photographed and / or video taped.


Monday, February 27th, “Crazy Hat Day”     
Dress for the day:     Students and teachers will wear their favorite hats all day.  Use your imagination!  Be creative!  Design your own hat!  Hats can be serious, dressy, funny, silly, fuzzy, goofy, kooky or crazy!  We’re striving for 500 hats.  A group picture will be taken on the playground of  everyone in the building wearing their hats.
Book (s):  “The CAT In The HAT”,  “The CAT In The HAT Comes Back”,         “How The       Grinch       Stole Christmas, etc.


Tuesday, February 28th, “Sock Day”
Dress for the day:    
Students and teachers will walk around in their socks all day.  (Beginning after

            homeroom, in the classroom, not in the hallways.)
Book (s):  “Fox in Socks”,     “Foot Book”


Wednesday, March 1st, “Wear Green Day”
Dress for the day
:      Wear your favorite green clothes to school.  Students and teachers will wear green to school for the day.  Teachers, who wish to, may prepare a treat of green eggs and ham for their class or have students bring in their favorite green food to share with the class.
Book:  “Green Eggs and Ham”


Thursday, March 2nd, “Reading Train”
Dress for the day: Students will create a reading train   
Book (s):       
“The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins”     “Bartholomew and the Oobleck”


Friday, March 3rd, “Reading Train PJ Day”
Dress for the day:    
All Students will create a reading train in the hallway of each floor with their favorite book. (During Period 1) Students and teachers in Grades 1 – 8 may wear their pajamas, robe and slippers in school.  Students must bring their school uniform in their backpacks incase their pajamas are inappropriate and they need a change of clothing.

Ms. Staples' worked with Ms. Dinis' class to build flying rockets.  Not only were her students excellent leaders, they were always extremely polite and very thoughtful.  Ms. Dinis' class was excited to work with them and they had a great time.  Click HERE to see more pictures.
